ICT171 Cloud Project

What is my Project?

I am proposing to create a professional portfolio website, a central place from which I can link to my GitHub, write blog posts on topics I'm interested in, and post links to my self-hosted services so my family and friends can access them.

I have previously completed two degrees at Murdoch University, a Bachelor of Global Security, majoring in Terrorism and Counterterrorism Studies, and a Bachelor of Criminology, majoring in Criminal Behaviour. In addition to these topics, I am now studying a Bachelor of Information Technology, majoring in Cybersecurity. I chose to study this third degree to finally do something about the feeling that I knew enough about computers to be good with them, but not enough to use them to nearly their full capacity.

Recently, I have been experimenting with networking and hosting my own software. Since beginning this project I have been hosting: my own local AI Server using Ollama and OpenWebUi, a personal dashboard using a software called Dashy, and a recipe manager called Tandoor in Docker Containers. In the future, I would like to add Home Assistant, Jellyfin, Paperless, and Immich once I am able to set up a dedicated server and have a bit more control over my own network.

At this stage in my career, I would like to write to inform people of the importance of privacy and cybersecurity in their everyday life, the benefts of advancing their IT literacy, and just of all the cool things they can do with self-hosted software.

Why have I chosen the Creative Commons Attribution Licence?

Reading this licence, it appears to be the best fit with my goals for this poroject and personal values. I like that other people are free to use, edit and spread any content I publish on this site from a personal values perspective, but my goal to build my professional reputation and online presence is best accomplished by still requiring anyone using this content to attribute it to me.

Should I, at some time in the future, look to market my content I may change to a copyright licence similar to Daniel Miessler.
